Clean Water Flows Again: IWA Commissions 2nd Water Project in Epelleama Town

June 2019

The Ijaw Women of America (IWA) has successfully commissioned a second clean water project in Epelleama Town, Rivers State, marking another major step forward in the organization’s mission to bring sustainable development and dignity to Ijaw communities.

Epelleama, a riverine town long plagued by limited access to safe drinking water, now celebrates a new chapter thanks to the unwavering support of IWA members and partners. This borehole project not only provides clean water but restores hope to families who have struggled with water-borne illnesses and long treks to fetch water from unreliable sources.

The commissioning ceremony was filled with joy, songs of praise, and heartfelt gratitude from community members. Women and elders of the town expressed their appreciation for the life-changing impact of the project, calling IWA’s efforts a blessing and an answer to prayer.

One community representative shared, “We thank the Ijaw Women of America for not forgetting us. Clean water is life. Our children will be healthier, and our women will suffer less.”

Key stakeholders in this initiative include the IWA leadership, community elders, and youth representatives, who worked collaboratively to ensure the success of the project. IWA continues to demonstrate that grassroots action, powered by unity and diaspora commitment can lead to meaningful change.

This is IWA’s second water project in Epelleama, a testament to their long-term engagement and deep care for the well-being of the town. The organization remains focused on health, education, and cultural preservation as pillars of progress for Ijaw people worldwide.

Through love in action, IWA continues to make clean water not just a necessity, but a reality.
