June 24th 2019 - Water is the source of life.  Without water we perish.  We drink water, we bath with water, we use water to cook, and we use water to wash our belongings.

The Ijaw tribe and its homeland is the main producer of crude oil in Nigeria.  Nigeria is the number one oil producing country in the whole of Africa.  All the oil resources come from the Niger Delta which is mainly Ijaw land and distributed throughout the country unevenly.

The first oil well that was drilled in Nigeria was drilled in Oloibiri in the year 1956.  Oloibiri is Ijaw land.

Everyday 2.5 million barrels of crude oil leaves the shores of Ijaw land whether we like it or not and yet the land from which this oil comes from is bare and has no clean water.

Our water is polluted with oil that has never been cleaned up since it’s inception.  Our people are dying of diseases, tumors, cancer and other neurological diseases.

Shell, Chevron, Exxon, Mobil, Texaco, Haliburton to mention a few oil companies and the Nigerian government have refused to sit down on the round table to discuss these issues that concern the average Ijaw person.  We as the Ijaw Women of America Inc. (IWA) ask for your help and support to bring this crucial information to the lime light.

We chose “CLEAN WATER for ALL Ijaw land” as a prelude to other dialogues that will help save the lives of the Ijaw people of the Niger Delta.  We say ENOUGH is ENOUGH.  We thank you for your help and support.
