IWA Brings Clean Water to Aven Town, Delta State
Kabowei Clan, Aven Town, Patani LGA, Delta State.
February 2019
In a heartfelt show of commitment to grassroots change, the Ijaw Women of America (IWA) has completed a life changing water project in Aven community, Delta State, Nigeria. This initiative, funded and coordinated by IWA members, reflects the organization’s continued dedication to improving access to basic needs in rural Ijaw communities.
Before this intervention, residents of Aven, particularly women and children walked long distances to fetch water from unsafe sources. Now, thanks to IWA, the community has a reliable borehole water system, offering clean, safe water right at their doorstep. This transformation not only improves health outcomes but also empowers families to focus on education, work, and community life.
During the handover ceremony, members of the community expressed deep gratitude, offering prayers and thanks to IWA for their generosity. Elders, youth, and women spoke about how this water project has restored dignity and hope. Local leaders acknowledged the importance of diaspora involvement and called for continued partnerships like this to meet urgent needs.
This project serves as a reminder of the impact that collective action and heartfelt service can have. IWA’s mission of building Ijaw communities through health, culture, and development continues one village at a time.
